SURREALISTICALLY SPEAKING........

Art is a loosely hung term nowadays. Anything and everything falls under the ambit of art. The bizarre, the unimaginable and the fantastic, all is art. They get away with it; who has the inclination to debate. With the result, the art schools of yore are trembling in their graves. What could be categorized earlier, has spread through the formidable lines, blurring them, and taking in its fold all that could be termed art or not.

Art used to be depiction of reality. Not only have the methods of depiction changed, the perception has changed. To make matters worse, the reality has changed.

Surrealism has widened its reach. Most artists today twist the reality and present it in bizarre or mystic ways. It is more fascinating than realism, challenging not only for the artist but for the viewer too. The surrealist artist sees more than the reach of the eye. What the eye sees is transmuted in the mind and the ramification projected on canvas is too ‘unreal’ for a regular person. The surrealist doesn’t lean on the abstract. He insists on using the ‘real’ object; he insists on depicting it as he sees it. The eccentricity of his composition pleases him. He is weird, using a strong tool as art to express his differently creative mind

                                                 JAYANTA KHAN
Jayanta Khan, is one present day artist who follows surrealism in its purest form. His personality and his art fuse into one another. Bizarre comes to him effortlessly. Dali would have gladly taken Khan under his apprenticeship. This exceptional is his concept.

Contemporary artist Anitta Sethi follows the surreal rules to the T. The objects are real, their portrayal is not. aBOVE is just a sample artwork. Most of her works are thought provoking and a challenge to piece together. She is set to pierce the glass ceiling

Surrealism takes confident strides in the art world, as we move aside to let it take center stage.
